Friday fun

Holy cow... we finally made it to Friday!
I couldn't get home fast enough to kick off the weekend. The plan: meet friends for dinner and then head to a comedy show at their yacht club. Comedy shows can be a bit of a gamble. When they're good, they're absolutely fantastic. When they're bad? Well, there's nothing more awkward than sitting in a room full of people trying to force a laugh while silently hoping the next joke lands.
Thankfully, this show was one of the good ones. The comedian kept the crowd laughing all night, and there wasn't a single painful moment of silence. The comics were story tellers, not the kind that make fun of people in the audience, although that's my favorite kind of comedian, it was still funny.
Of course, spending the evening with our friends Carole and Ray made it even better. They're always fun and easy to be around. Conversation flows effortlessly, the laughs come naturally, and a good time is practically guaranteed whenever we're together.
By the time the show ended, we found ourselves back at their house, chatting away. Before I knew it, midnight had come and gone and we were closing in on Saturday.
Tim and I have hardly seen one another all week, so it felt especially nice to enjoy a date night together. Add in a beautiful sunset over the water, and we're all in. There had been plenty of discussion beforehand about what to wear. Yacht clubs have dress codes, no jeans, shorts are frowned upon, and collared shirts are expected. Honestly, I think the world could use a few more dress codes. Whatever happened to people wanting to look their best when they go out?
Carole looked fabulous in her signature white pants, as always. She wears them so well that we're all secretly thrilled white-pants season has officially returned. I, on the other hand, didn't have time to make the transition from daytime Rachel to nighttime Rachel, so my outfit was a little more practical than festive. Sometimes you just have to work with what the day gives you.
As we sat on the deck, feeling the warm evening breeze and watching the sky turn shades of pink and gold over the boats, it felt as though someone had quietly opened the door to summer. After a long stretch of busy schedules and unpredictable New England weather, it was exactly the reminder I needed.
Summer may be our shortest season, but it always seems to make up for it with long evenings, beautiful sunsets, spontaneous adventures, and time spent with the people who make life more enjoyable. If this was the kickoff to the season, I'd say we're off to a pretty great start.
