Bingo Anyone?

Bingo, Anyone?

Each year someone asks, "Want to come to bingo?" And each year, without fail, I say yes... only to be reminded that I don't actually like bingo!

Sure, a game or two is entertaining for a few minutes, but by the fifth game my eyes start to glaze over. All I really want to do is chat with my friends instead of listening for numbers and frantically dabbing little squares on a card.

Of course, we didn't stop at five games. We kept going until we were all thoroughly saturated with bingo, eagerly waiting for it to end and growing increasingly frustrated that our cards never produced a single winner. Well... almost. My friend Carol won the very first game, but naturally it happened to be the smallest prize of the night, so even she felt a little shortchanged!

Before you think I'm being a total Debbie Downer, I should add that we did have fun. We were together at our beach club, laughing, catching up, and enjoying each other's company. Thankfully, we met early for pizza before the games began, which gave us a bit of time to socialize. That turned out to be a very good decision because once the final number was called, you'd have thought someone had pulled the fire alarm! People shot out of their chairs and headed for the exits like rockets. Those who stayed behind immediately started folding tables and stacking chairs. Good grief... could we have had just five minutes to visit??

So, I'll be retiring my bingo dabber for another year, skipping the clubs next Bingo event. Maybe by next summer I'll have forgotten how much I dislike the game and happily agree to go again.

I'm left wondering... would winning would change my opinion.... ?

We'll find out next year!

"The greatest prize isn't on the bingo card, it's the company around the table." ~ Unknown (but clearly not a bingo winner)!
