Hands free

Seriously, I love that darn Tesla Cybertruck!

A friend of mine had been driving her husband's Cybertruck for a while, but now she has one of her very own, and holy cow... it is fantastic. Hers has a gorgeous white interior that somehow gives it a softer, more elegant feel than her husband's. I was absolutely thrilled when she invited me to hop in for a ride.

The technology is simply mind-blowing.

Self-driving vehicles are amazing, and I can officially add one to my life's bucket list. Watching the truck effortlessly navigate the roads while we carried on a conversation felt like something straight out of a science fiction movie. It's incredible how quickly the future has become the present.

What did disappoint me, though, was hearing about the reactions she gets from some people. Simply because she's driving a Tesla, strangers have flipped her off, shouted rude comments, or made assumptions about her. That makes me sad. She's one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet, and she's just enjoying a vehicle she genuinely loves.

Whatever our opinions are, it seems we've forgotten that the person behind the wheel is just that, a person. We don't know their story, and a car shouldn't be an invitation for hostility. A little more kindness would go a long way these days.

Hate and all, I'd happily drive that darn truck... or better yet, let it drive me!

Then she showed me something that made me love it even more. With the push of a button, the rear cover slid open to reveal a full-size truck bed. Suddenly it wasn't just a futuristic-looking vehicle...it was incredibly practical. You get the comfort of a spacious SUV, the usefulness of a pickup truck, the convenience of electric power, and the bonus of self-driving technology all rolled into one package.

You may think it's the ugliest vehicle ever built, and believe me, I know plenty of people do, but I think it's fantastic. In fact, I'd argue it's one of the most practical (and awesome) vehicles I've ever seen.

Of course, I'm not shopping for a new vehicle anytime soon. I keep my cars so long I'm surprised they don't rust away before I finally part with them. I've never bought a brand-new car in my life. I've always been the practical one, happily finding a dependable secondhand vehicle and enjoying my new to me ride.

But I have to admit... this Cybertruck has me thinking.

By the time I'm actually ready for another vehicle, just imagine how much further this technology will have come. Maybe that's when I'll take the jump... lease a dream car for a couple of years, enjoy every minute of it, and then quietly return to my sensible ways.

Who knows?

A few years from now, you just might see me cruising down the road in my very own Cybertruck, with my hands off the wheel, a huge smile on my face, and the truck doing all the work.
