Abundance

They say there’s no place like home, and the older I get, the more I realize just how true that is.

After a crazy-busy week and a late night out celebrating, a quiet day at home was exactly what the doctor ordered. It’s funny how a house can almost wrap itself around you and give you a sense of peace. No matter how wonderful the day has been, there’s something comforting about stepping back into your own little corner of the world.

Maybe it’s the familiar smell, the pictures on the walls, or the little treasures collected over a lifetime. Every room holds a memory, every piece of furniture has a story, and every quirky knickknack reminds me of a place I’ve been or someone I love. It’s certainly not a magazine-perfect home, but it’s perfect to me.

Tim and I lounged around, each in our own corners of the house, sometimes together, sometimes doing our own thing, but both completely content with the day. We didn’t focus on housework, projects, or endless to-do lists. We simply enjoyed a much-needed day of rest and each other’s company.

Our home is filled with artwork, collections, plants, and all sorts of things that probably only make sense to us. But that’s what makes it feel alive. It tells our story. Some people dream of traveling nonstop or living out of a suitcase. I love to travel too, but home is right up there with any of my favorite places in the world.

As we get older, home becomes more than just four walls and a roof. It becomes the place where we’ve built our lives, celebrated holidays, weathered hard times, laughed until we cried, and lived countless ordinary days that somehow became cherished memories.

You might think that for our anniversary we would have gone out for a fancy dinner or bought each other lavish gifts. But our reality is so much sweeter: taking a day off together, slowing down, enjoying the life we’ve built, and appreciating the abundance of happiness we share right here at home.

Maybe that’s one of life’s greatest gifts, not having the biggest house or the fanciest one, but having a place that feels like it wraps its arms around you the moment you walk through the door… and having someone beside you to share it all with.

After all, home isn’t just where you live. It’s where your heart finally gets to exhale..

“Happiness is a place between too little and too much.” ~ Finnish proverb
