Ride or Die Gals

If we're lucky, we have a few ride-or-die friends in our lives. The kind of friends who don't ask questions, don't hesitate, and simply show up when we need an extra set of hands. Bethany gave us that call as she pulled together the final details for her wedding, and we were more than happy to answer.
We piled into Megan's car and headed off to lend a hand, ready to roll up our sleeves and tackle whatever needed doing. Setting tables, arranging centerpieces, and taking care of all those last-minute details that seem to multiply as a wedding hour approaches. We were happy to pitch in and do our part to help make our friend's big day everything she had hoped for. And when it was all said and done, everything looked beautiful. Guests would arrive later, completely unaware of the busy morning and all the behind-the-scenes work that had gone into making it happen. Just the way it should be!
After a productive morning, we headed back to our lake house for lunch. The guys had gone grocery shopping and returned with enough food to feed an army, which turned out to be a very good thing since we'd invited a few more friends to join us. We gathered outside, soaking up the sunshine, enjoying good food and even better company. The lake stretched out before us, autumn colors were beginning to take over the trees, and the whole scene was a picture-perfect reminder of the beauty and peacefulness that New England does so well. It was one of those afternoons when there was nowhere else we'd rather be.
Once our company headed out, a few of us gals decided there was still time for a little treasure hunting. After all, no weekend getaway is complete without a stop at a thrift store! The outfits I'd packed suddenly seemed a bit too fancy for the evening, so I was on a mission to find something just right. And, oh my goodness, did I hit the jackpot! A beautiful navy blue dress that fit me like it was made for me. For a mere $7, I had the perfect outfit for the night. A quick change of wardrobe, and we were off to get ready.
Bethany looked absolutely beautiful, and every thoughtful detail of the day reflected the care she'd put into making it special. A few of us gals even dressed in our finest bridesmaid-worthy attire, just in case she needed us to jump in and save the day! Of course, we were hoping our only job would be to celebrate, but we were ready for anything.
This weekend at the lake house has been everything a getaway with friends should be: laughter, good food, beautiful scenery, a little adventure, and, most importantly, the kind of friendships that show up when it matters. In fact, we've all agreed that we need to make another weekend like this happen, only next time, without waiting for a wedding as an excuse! We're already talking about renting a house a little closer to home for a long weekend together. I did make one very specific request for our next rental, though: walls that go all the way up to the ceiling! Who knew that would be something I'd need to put on my rental wish list? Apparently, every getaway comes with a lesson or two.
Weddings may bring people together for a special day, but it's the friendships, the shared experiences, and the unexpected moments in between that create memories worth holding on to. And if we're lucky enough to have friends who show up when we call, well, that's a gift worth celebrating long after the wedding is over.
“There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.” — Thomas Aquinas
