Day 310 Gilded Age
Visiting Clouds Hill Museum has me, once again in awe of the history and beauty right here in little Rhody. I know I sound like a travel ambassador for RI but seriously, our little state sure packs a big punch. My guess is you probably haven't heard of Clouds Hill House, now open for tours. The house was built between 1871-1877 and has been passed down through generations and is still owned by the original family. I know we all think of Newport for wonderful architecture and opulence but here this sits right on the line between Warwick & East Greenwich. The house is packed full of original antiques, I guess that's what you get when your family never moves! Check out the beautiful Steinway piano....spectacular! The room I'm standing in has also been filmed for the HBO series the Gilded Age...another must see!! Since the series was filmed here in RI, I've wanted to visit each filming location, there's at least nine of them right here in RI. Clouds Hill is unique since it's still lived in and is a functioning home as well as open for museum tours. Interesting factoid about the ladies of the gilded age, they would change their clothes 4-8 times a day for each daily event or outing....maybe I was born during the wrong era?!? I wore this cute pastel print dress with beige slides and a fun purse with big bow not realizing I'd match the curtains throughout the house! Maybe I was meant to live in such opulence....hopefully as the lady of the house and not the maid!! From their dishes to dresses to fabulous dinner parties we could all take a page from history. Who wouldn't love a fancy dinner party??? My house is a far cry from Clouds Hill but I can host a party to rival any gilded age gal.... or I'm at least up for the challenge.
