Day 422 Barcelona

While we slept our ship sailed from France to Spain and we woke up with spectacular views of Barcelona. We dragged our jet lagged bodies out of bed and enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet before heading out to explore the city. I found it funny that every time someone mentioned going into the city they followed it up with warnings of pick pockets, Barcelonas #1 sport apparently. I’m not sure if anyone sized us up for what loot we may have carried, Tim said I don’t give off the vibe of someone you want to try and steal from, a compliment? Barcelona is a city rich in history and filled to the brim with historic buildings and statues. In fact, there’s not a buildable lot to be found in the entire city. I loved seeing the old cobblestone sidewalks and the arc de Triomphe was impressive. The churches are impressive and clearly the epicenter of the city. The city was also packed with people, Tons of tourists, there were more McDonalds, Burger Kings and American chain restaurants than you’d imagine. Parts of the city were stinky and dirty, riddled with graffiti, just like every city you visit. My favorite building wasn’t on any tour but was from the 14th century and oozed great stories it had towers, a great big wooden door and you could see where the moat once was. People sat along the stone wall eating their burgers and fries, with no regard to the people that once occupied this great house. I can only imagine that if the people that build this amazing structure could see into the future they would have added spikes on the wall. Barcelona was beautiful but we were happy to be back on our ship, hungry from the adventure and ready to take in a bit of nightlife. Once again we hopped from one live music performance to another, ending the night dancing in the disco until the wee hours of the morning. I tried to caution Tim that we may have to choose daytime adventures or late nights but he wouldn’t hear of it, determined we can do it all. I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but I did manage to talk him into a relaxing day by the pool, we’ll be docked in Barcelona for one more day. A bit of relaxing is due.
