Day 428 Rome

Early wake up for an adventure in Rome. We knew the drive from Civitavecchia would be about an hour so as we lined up with the masses we could only hope to find a decent seat on the bus. As our group was divided  we ended up being the first to board and scored the front seat, lucky! Of course Tim nodded right off, the bus seems to be his kryptonite, but I enjoyed the view as we rode along to the city. We spent the day going from one historic site to the next with a fantastic guide. Throwing fashion to the wind I wore sneakers, tank top , shorts and accessorized with an headset. I didn’t look at all like a tourist I’m sure! We visited the Trevi fountain, the Colosseum, st. Peter’s Square and of course the Vatican. Thankfully we stopped for a mid-day lunch and glass of wine! I shouldn’t have been surprised at the complaining folks with my tour group, but I was. They complained about too much walking and gave the guide a hard time, talk about biting the hand that feeds you! I did my best to tell him what a great tour it was and that it wasn’t any more walking then I’d expected. I do think people need to be a bit more self aware of their own abilities, no shame in tapping out of a lengthy excursion if it’s too much. Seeing all the folks struggle with a day of walking makes me want to get home and start working out more! A body in motion stays in motion so I’d better keep moving. Rome is impressive, the wealth, the brutality and the fact that it’s still so in tact. The bus ride back to the shop gave Tim a chance to nap before gearing up for another night out. Did I mention how great the music has been on our ship?!? The cruise has been fantastic, our own floating hotel that brings us to a new port and new adventure every morning. So long to Rome but Livorno awaits.
