Day 451 Dining Out

Birthday dinner at one the Ocean House, one of RI's fanciest hotels, It can't hurt to have Taylor Swift as a neighbor! It's really quite amazing how many famous folks find sanctuary in our little state and set up forever homes. We drove by the gates to Taylors house before making our way to our destination, discussing how lucky we are to live in such a spectacular state. When we arrived at the hotel there was a group leaving what had been a book discussion with an author, apparently an ongoing Wednesday night winter event. Of course I knew droves of people coming out of the event, I have such smarty pants friends! Tim and I stopped to chat with one friend after another and if it weren't for our dinner reservations probably would have ended up at the bar with a group of them. We sat in the Bistro, overlooking the ocean and T-Swifts pad until the windows were black with the nights darkness and we were cozy in our comfy seats, dining on our first course. Embracing his age, Tim even tried to enjoy a glass of wine but after a sip or two changed it up for a cocktail, no draft beer option available. The ambiance at the Ocean House is worth the trip, cushioned seats, cloth tablecloths and napkins, even the bathroom has cloth hand towels along with fancy soap and lotion. The decor in the tremendous lobby is spectacular and continues to impress as you meander through the restaurant. The food was delicious, although we discussed how spoiled we are with RI being so full of amazing restaurants. The Ocean House is also know for being pricey, they need to cover the cost of all those linens and the ocean front real estate I suppose. One of the benefits of being a local in this beautiful state is that our fanciest establishments offer winter specials. Our fancy meal was an amazing three course dinner with glass of wine for only $55, incredible price for the Ocean House, typically you'd spend twice that for lunch! Tim was amazed that we dined for over two hours, he's much more accustomed to the high top pub style meal that takes all of ten minutes to devour. I'm not sure fine dining will ever be his thing, but he sure gave it a try, embracing his new age and all. His fancy dessert had a candle along with a small piece of chocolate that said Happy Birthday on it, Birthday wishes are a must. I might be back for another Wednesday night, check out the book group and enjoy another fine dining experience but I imagine Tim will have other plans when I do.
