Day 465 Sea Captains

This photo came up today on my timehop, taken on a trip to Mexico ten years ago. This was one of our favorite vacations, all inclusive resort, loads of sunshine and fabulously fun nights. There's really nothing like tropical weather for carrying on late into the night, especially when it's compared to the 7pm cold weather bedtimes. Tim and I had once again set out for a vacation without a destination in mind, why limit ourselves? After juggling several ideas, we settled on the Riu Palace in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for our week away. I love an all inclusive, allows for a week without thinking about money as you indulge and enjoy yourself. We lounged poolside or sat on the beach, ate and drank until our hearts content and enjoyed nightly entertainment. One day as we sat on the beach we watched several folks kayaking and thought how fun it would be for us to try. We grabbed a double kayak and our adventure began with us trying to get through the waves out to the calmer seas. Within no time we were arguing about how to paddle, who should be steering the boat and just about everything else. I still laugh when I think about the folks on shore watching us, thinking how fun it looked as we paddled around! By the time we got back to shore we vowed never to try such a thing again, stick to sunbathing! Fortunately our time on land was filled with happiness and enjoyment and our battle to be ship captain left at sea. We drank espresso martinis and didn't sit down for dinner until 9pm, like a couple of teenagers. We also made the most wonderful friends who we are still in contact with! Oh, and take a look at my fabulous dress! You won't be surprised to hear I still have that dress, a good dress should last a lifetime. I can't believe this trip was ten years ago, might be time to start planning an adventure for 2024. I'll be excited  to see what destination awaits us, one thing for sure, there won't be a kayak involved at least not a double...every man for himself when at sea!
