Day 484 Smarty Pants

A day filled with Dr.'s appointments and learning to navigate purchasing medical equipment. It's really amazing all the new skills you acquire as you travel through life! Tim and I were up early for our drive to the city to visit the Ostomy Specialists. The visit was worth the drive, as they are so knowledgable and guidance invaluable to us at this early stage. We left with a list of medical supplies I was tasked to order, not really in my wheelhouse. Fortunately we have a new Blue Cross location within minutes of our house, smart is finding where to get help.  The forty five minute wait turned into a solid hour and a half but once I was finally called back to an office the attention I received was impressive. The new blue cross center really is remarkable, they offer free fitness classes during the day. Although for what insurance costs I'm sure we're paying, but still, it's a great service. They have customer service representatives there to answer questions, help navigate the system and in my case help with ordering medical supplies. I came home beaming with success to find Tim comfortably lounging in front of the television. He figured since I was gone for so long I had taken a detour and was shopping!! Little did he know I was sitting alone in the stark new blue cross building waiting my life away, all for him. Yes, I'm sure he knows he's lucky, if he doesn't I'll remind him. It was an exhausting day but certainly one filled with an abundance of new knowledge and skills. Walking into a new facility and learning what they have to offer is always a great idea, knowledge is power. I often amaze folks with my knowledge of our transfer station, I know how to dispose of just about anything. What bins to put hard plastics, metals or electronic devices as well as yard waste or large appliance disposal. Tim often says we should pay for garbage pick up, clearly he's trying to dumb me down. I'll continue to drop my recycling off for free and bags of garbage for a $2 tag fee. All this medical knowledge is just another page from the  of do-it-yourself book, one that I absorb and incorporate into my life with ease. Am I tooting my own horn? Absolutely and unapologetically, life will always have challenges, or opportunities to gain knowledge, it's all how we absorb it. I was exhausted but pleased with the days accomplishments, certainly thrilled to see my patient making such great leaps towards being back to his healthy self. Smarter and healthier will be our motto as we roll into 2024.
