Day 637 Ugly
Tim has been chomping at the bit to cut down an "ugly" tree next to our back patio. When he first told me his plan, referring to the tree as ugly I couldn't believe what I was hearing. First of all, it's a Viburnum bush and a beautiful one at that and why name call it? It blooms clusters of white blossoms that are so fragrant they make the entire yard smell wonderful while in bloom. Of course, like everything else, when not in its prime season it appears to be just another bush, nothing spectacular. I understood the need for it to be cut, his reasoning made sense, but I'm so sad to see it go and continue to protest its beauty. Fortunately, it had one more chance to show off its splendor before the being hit by the chainsaw. The limbs full of blooming flowers that fell to the ground were quickly cut and brought inside as bouquets. The patio feels so much larger without being overshadowed by the bush and I completely agree with Tims reasoning for cutting it, just disagree with his name calling my beautiful viburnum. I spent a couple hours in the backyard, looking like a hot mess in my pj bottoms and a sweatshirt, running a wood chipper, cleaning up the fallen bush. I forced limb after limb into the chipper, watching the beautiful blossoms turn to fragrant mulch. I only stopped working to shower and clean up to meet my friends at the beach club for a few games of Mahjong, apparently we're hard core players now. They all laughed when I told them I had been running a wood chipper all morning, after my fancy lemon garb the stark contrast was comical. I'm just like my beautiful viburnum bush, I can go from "ugly" to spectacular in a flash. Makes you realize we should all be a bit more careful of judging anything by one moment in time. Give everything a chance to shine before making assumptions, we all shine in different ways so wait and watch carefully. With Mothers Day around the corner I might have a gift idea...how about a beautiful Viburnum bush for the yard?
