Day 640 Wish Flower

I was searching online for a photo of these beautiful dandelion puffs and wasn't sure if they had an official name. My friend quickly told me they were called wish flowers, wait, what?? How could I have lived for 59 years without ever hearing this term? Of course I know you're suppose to make a wish then blow on them until the white puff is scattered but have always just called them dandelion puffs. I quickly googled the name, wish flower and was amazed to see a page of photos quickly appear! If we learn something new every day, wish flowers had me covered for one. Of course I had to dig deeper, clearly that's not their scientific name, I found Taraxacum officials, although that covers the dandelion in all its forms. I told my son about my new found wish flower knowledge and discussed the possibility of the dandelion having a different name as the wish flower, even though they are the same flower in different stages. We came up with the caterpillar and the butterfly, completely different names for different life stages. I'm left with more questions than when before I ever entered down this rabbit hole. Is the wish flower still a dandelion or does it, like the butterfly, take on a completely new identity? Do we really learn something new each and every day?? Do the wishes you make blowing out a wish flower come true?  How did my friend learn about the wish flowers years before and the simple name elude me for 59 years? There are so many mysteries in this world just waiting to be discovered, although at my age I better start learning at least two new things a day!! One thing I know for sure, the dandelion in all its stages is one of my favorite flowers and always brightens my day. I'm excited to see what other nuggets of knowledge I'll pick up this week and will be sure to pass them along. I may even make a wish or two just for fun.
