Day 642 Trolls

Two trolls just arrived at Ninigret Park and I couldn't wait to meet them! They are spectacular works of art, created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo out of recycled wood. There are two beauties at Ninigret, of what will be the Rhode Island Troll Trail, that will eventually have a total of five trolls throughout the state. Apparently there are more than 100 of these trolls scattered all over the world, so how lucky was I to have them placed right in my back yard? Tim was not as enthusiastic as I was about seeing them, but since I was driving he couldn't avoid the detour on our way home. We walked through the woods to find this marvelous creation and even Tim had to admit it was worth the effort.  It may have been even more magical since it was dark, with only he and I standing in the woods, alone with our troll. I'm sure during the daylight countless people will be jockeying for position for a photo and a touch of the magic will be missing without the moonlight.  Isn't it amazing what people can create straight out of their imaginations?  Envision someone telling you they would build giant trolls out of scrap wood for a living...and that the world would love them! Thomas Dambo quit his job to create art out of garbage, bold move that fortunately panned out. Thank goodness there are dreamers in our midst that throw social norms to the curb in order to follow their dreams. Of course, many artists don't live to see the worlds admiration of their work but fortunately social recognition or monetary gain doesn't motivate the artistic spirit.  It is rare and wonderful to witness folks being keen enough to appreciate art during time of its creation and praise the artist for his vision. I'll visit my trolls again soon, but not sure it will be as exciting as walking through the dark woods, the sound of peepers at max volume, turning a bend and meeting this beautiful creature for the first time. Tim and I stood next to the pond, listening to the sounds of the night under a moonlight umbrella alone with our guardian troll, fully embracing all the wonders of this big beautiful world filled with magical moments....and now trolls.
