Day 651 Off Course
Sometimes mistakes turn into wonderful adventures, I suppose it's all in what frame of mind we choose to embrace. I was up early and hustled to shower, get dressed and pick my mom up to be the first in line for our favorite thrift shop a couple towns over. We arrived to find the parking lot vacant and store windows dark. I had checked the opening time and was sure it was 9am but apparently it was 10am. My mother and I quickly reviewed our options for the hour and decided on finding a breakfast place. I googled restaurants near me and was delighted to find something four minutes away. My GPS guiding us, we were there in a flash and before we knew it sitting down amongst locals drinking coffee and enjoying the quaint vibe of the small establishment. It was clearly a spot we would have never found, off the beaten path, down a side road neither of us had ever traveled. This new generation will never appreciate how lucky they are to have the world at their fingertips with smart phones. As we sat enjoying our newly found spot we couldn't help but agree that prior to smart devices, finding it wouldn't have been possible. We had delicious meals, were served by the nicest waitresses, who seemed to know everyone that came in but treated us with equal enthusiasm, and we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. The hour flew by and before we knew it we were back at our thrift shop, first in line and ready to discover a treasure or two. I found a brand new Lily Pulitzer fanny pack, yes please! People can laugh all they want but I love a fanny pack and pairing it with my favorite designer is fanny pack perfection. I actually think the fanny pack is coming back into style, slowly, but it's coming. People are buying them and wearing them like cross body bags, but I can spot a fanny pack from afar, no matter how its worn. We found a few treasures, looked through each section with great interested and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I doubt we'll ever be back to our little breakfast spot, but it sure was a wonderful detour for the day. Life is a journey, let's enjoy the ride, even when it takes us off course.
