Day 687 Bricks

 

Bricks, bricks and more bricks, yay! I have been scouring Facebook marketplace in search for good quality antique bricks and hit the jackpot with this haul. My friend Heather is the one that spotted the deal and texted me the link immediately. Someone had exactly what I was looking for and posted the glorious stack of bricks, free for anyone who could pick up. I immediately reached out to a friend with a truck, thankfully asking for his help not the use of his vehicle, and go figure, he agreed. Imagine being asked, hey, can you come by and help me move approximately 800 bricks tonight after work...and saying yes? Dave came over, picked up Tim and I and the three of us set out on our quest to move bricks. My work post was inside the bed of the truck, arranging the stacks as the two men chipped away at the ground piles, each carrying stacks of 8 bricks at a time, placing them onto the tailgate for me to evenly distribute and organize. We worked quickly and without rest, filling the truck with the first load before driving home and assuming our stations, working in reverse, me handing stacks of bricks to the two men who began making piles on pallets. Thankfully, the second trip went faster since we had taken the lions share the first round. All in all we were done in two hours, a very long, hard two hours but hey, no need for a gym visit, we all got great workouts. Every part of my brick pile makes me smile, the history in these old bricks, the fact that a stranger gave them to me for free, the thought of recycling them into a patio, the unbelievable fact that I have friends who will help with such a work intense mission on a hot day. Imagine the delight I will have each time I step out onto a beautiful brick patio with such a history and story already!? Once we finish we'll have to invite Dave over for dinner so he can appreciate the efforts of his labor as well. I'm sure these bricks were a chimney and will soon be a patio, transformation is a wonderful thing, almost as good a great friends.
