Day 689 Adventure List
Standing among Pilars, my beautiful state, prominently marked in stone, I couldn't help but pose for a photo. Tim's a good sport and knows when I ask for a quick picture I want a wide shot, capturing everything my eye can see to share. RI has amazing statues, sculptures and landmarks scattered throughout and each time I see one I refuse to walk right by, soaking in all the history and respect for each amazing landmark. After all, we travel to Rome to see ancient statues, why pass right by our 200 year old history right here in our own backyard...ok, not quite as old but you get the point. I once visited Roger Williams Park to try and visit each statue within the park, turned out to be more than I could see in a day, certainly more than I could visit on foot! Works of art are often overlooked as folks rush to the zoo or drive right by, we're so busy! It takes effort to stop, pause, notice and appreciate what's right in front of us. I loved taking a week off of work to stay home...after all, where I live is an incredible vacation spot! I have a mental list of all the places I'd like to visit this summer and may need more time. The Newport mansions usually tops a list, recently the Breakers opened the third floor, its never been open to the public until now...don't mind if I do. There's a heard of elephants coming to Newport, some of which will be visible from the breakers, I may be able to kill two birds with one stone there. Yes, you read that right....a heard of elephants, actually a great elephant migration. It's a traveling art exhibition to inspire humans to share space and I can't wait to see it!! Last year when the umbrella exhibit arrived I gathered a group of friends to see it, may have to do the same with the elephants. I want to sit outside on the sidewalk at the Olympia Tea Room in Watch Hill and pretend I'm a tourist as I eat lunch and my little cafe. I want to show my friends the Great Swamp Memorial, visit my trolls again and hit the Ratskeller for an outdoor concert. I want to lay on the beach from morning until sunset and wrap myself in a towel to keep warm. I want to enjoy local theatre, dinners out and game nights in, boat nights and Friday night appetizer gatherings. My infinite list of adventures seems to grow each day! RI's summers are so short, the race is on! I suppose it's a good thing I live in the smallest state, imagine the list I'd have if I lived in Texas?!
