Day 703 Hooked on Books

A long way from my fancy Lilly Pulitzer store, but this little free library shed is one of my favorite places to visit. Maybe its because I love to see things recycled whenever possible, this place just makes me smile. I'm not reader by any stretch, but can't help but stop in whenever I'm at the dump. This shed is conveniently located at the entrance of my transfer station, saving books from being thrown into the trash. There are people that visit daily to organize the donations into several categories, keeping the shed systematized and tidy. Of course, sometimes the donations overwhelm the volunteers and the piles of boxes filled with books stack up on the floor or are haphazardly placed on shelves. People often leave games, puzzles and other random items, so you never know what you'll find. I once found a beautiful pair of crystal champagne glasses, in perfect condition...don't mind if I do! I visit each week to look through the history section for my son, who loves a good book and is always happy when he visits to find a new stack waiting for him. The little shed is dingy and dark, hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter, but all that seems to add to its charm. Each time I visit I see people arrive with boxes of books to donate, others leave with stacks of books, eager for a good read. If I were a reader, I'd feel as if I hit the jackpot! I enjoy reading the titles of books, looking at the fancy covers, sometimes picking up a cookbook or two but my lack of desire to read has never stopped me from enjoying a good book search. I'm not sure other communities have such an amazing resource, guessing most don't. Not that I need it but it's one more reason to love my little town. I suppose you need to be a thrifty cat like me, bring your garbage and recycling to the transfer station yourself to find a treasure like my Rose Hill Free Library and be adventurous enough to enter! For those of us that do, we're forever hooked on a books...or at least the search.
