Day 715 Crocheted Fail
I had so many questions as I walked by the Mens department and saw this crocheted shirt/sweater. Based on the full rack of multiple patterned shirt/sweaters, this was no joke. I stood looking at the items, trying my best to imagine any man I know wearing such an interesting item but couldn't come up with anyone. Was the designer trying to bring a 70's vibe back, if so, it was a fail. Would the person sporting such an item wear an undershirt or just let the bare skin show through the holes? Would bell bottoms be required? Platform shoes? I'm a huge fan of 70's style but this isn't it by a long shot. The younger generation might be fooled by the false, retro vibe but not me, this is a crocheted fail. Crocheted ponchos were stylish, a sweater here and there, certainly blankets for the backs of couches but I never saw a man in a button up crocheted shirt with a blanket pattern. I stood and watched the sweater/shirt for a bit, to see if anyone walking by would stop to give it a look, everyone walked right by it as if it wasn't there. How on earth could such an item be missed?? This fall I'll be scanning every crowd I'm in, searching for the rare human that purchases this item...I can't wait to see if I find it and how they look!! As a former Mod Squad super fan, neither Pete or Link would have been caught dead in such an item, although Julie rocked crochet better than anyone in the late 60's early 70's. I watched Peggy Lipton, knowing she was the coolest cat there ever was! If I ever rock the hippie vibe its me channeling memories of her....she's probably the reason I try to straighten my hair!! Fashion these days seems to be all over the place, the 2020's hasn't found its own vibe yet so keeps trying to steal from the past. I'll be expecting Rugby shirts to be back in any day now. I've always wondered why on earth the 20's flapper fashion hasn't made a comeback...yet. As we all try to find our fashion groove, the stores are offering preppy to hippie and everything in between for us to purchase or laugh at. Although, I bet there's someone out there that could buy this crazy crocheted number and wear it so well it makes it look good. Hanging on the rack I don't see it.... but I'm open to the possibility. I can't wait to see what other fashion is unveiled for the fall season, it's shaping up to be an entertaining season.
