Day 717 daydreaming

Imagine sitting by a fire on a cool September night watching the sunset and telling stories while roasting marshmallows. I believe it was this photo that sold me on the airbnb house I selected, not sure if any of that image will actually happen, but it's a nice vision. I've begun creating a mental list of things to pack, meals, snacks, games and everything we'd need for a weekend together in the woods. I have invited one of my brothers and his wife to join us, my brother Chris is a fan favorite with all my kids so everyone would be delighted to add him to our group. The house comes equipped with three kayaks, I imagine we'll put those to good use, although I might prefer lounging on the dock watching everyone else paddle around as I'm lazy. The sunset will be over the water, for us early risers that will be delightful! The weekend away could only be made better if Tim was able to join us but with his niece also getting married that weekend we're forced to split up and attend separate nuptials. I would have him drive up to join us on Sunday, but someone's got to care for our chickens and Peps so he's it. I am profoundly aware that each and every time I go away something attacks and kills a chicken or two. Fingers crossed that this trip breaks that cycle...we'll see. I realize it's only a weekend away and not until September, but the thought of an adventure is a delightful focus for a daydream. I am inspired to get a place next year and gather our entire family for a week vacation together, kids and grandkids galore. It will have to be a waterfront place, lake, pond or beach, no landlocked rental for me. the anticipation of any trip is almost as enjoyable as the trip itself, not quite but close. I grew up visiting Maine each and every chance we had, my mothers family all scattered throughout the state. I went to the Fryeburg  fair each year, walked over the Bath bridge to get ice cream and visited uncles in Georgetown and Wiscasset. My cousins are now spread all over the state from Portland to Bangor and everywhere in-between so I never really thought of Maine as a vacation destination. For one weekend in September I'm going to try to embrace my inner tourist as if it were my first visit to the beautiful state. Not sure if any of my kids will indulge my vision and roast marshmallows by a fire, but a mom can dream and this one dreams and daydreams.
