Day 721 Beach Days and Cook Ins

Fortunately, we got a beach day in on Saturday, since Sunday was a cloudy wash out. We had plans for a cookout at the beach club that turned into a cook in at my house, the best laid plans are always subject to change. After a long Saturday at the beach with my grandsons we came home to lounge and watch a movie. It's funny that both Tim and I think of great movies that all end up being at least forty years old. Movie selected, the Terminator, having been made in 1984 it was old but still as entertaining as ever with nonstop action. The flick shows the aftermath of a nuclear war that takes place in the future, 2029...which in 1984 seemed like super far into the future. Watching it in 2024, it doesn't seem so far away. Funny the movie shows laser guns and all kinds of futuristic machines while kids in the aftermath sit in front of a fire inside a big old box style tv that's been nonexistent for years. We were all so enthralled with the movie that when we woke up on a cloudy Sunday and quad up Terminator 2. We all snuggled in for what we knew would be another action packed movie... and were not disappointed. The boys were familiar with famous lines from the movies, "I'll be back" and others but now have the context for the iconic phrases. Tim and I managed to get a little bit of yard work in before our day of movie watching and our in-laws arrived for a cook in and visit. We all sat on our deck after dinner, but were forced inside by the start of rain showers, not surprising to any of us. The freshly mowed lawn being watered as the sun went down, Mother Nature doing her best to help keep things green. Sunday nights always come too quickly, if only I  could extend the weekends....even just a little. Two days isn't enough time for projects and chores and all the fun I want to have, only a teaser for life with free time. I did manage to try my new weed wacker, my big purchase on Amazon Prime Day. Tim put it together and I spent over an hour down at our river bank, trimming weeds and clearing the bank. My new tool will help keep our river front under control, not an easy job for sure. The bank is too steep for the mower, and the marshy ground is covered with grasses, ferns and weeds. My new battery operated tool, although requiring patience to allow the small blade do its work, got the job done. The goal is to trim the bank each time we mow....again, the best laid plans don't always work out...but a gal has to have dreams. I'll be spending the week dreaming of sunshine, beach and another fun weekend that can't come fast enough. August is right around the corner....the summer flies by just about as fast as the weekend, before we know it we'll be forty years into the future, hopefully our future will be a bit brighter than the Terminator movies!!
