Day 728 Skills
Another weekend workday, progress is slow but steady. Tim and I decided on vinyl, faux wood flooring for the little bedroom and after several YouTube and consults with friends with knowledge of the process we felt somewhat prepared to do it ourselves. Truth is, Tim tried to hire several people to do it for us, but finding anyone to work these days isn't easy! I felt confident that we could handle the task and once we got into the groove the job moved along...slowly as we gingerly worked. We finished all but one strip of flooring, I think Tim wants the satisfaction of completion without me around. I am more impressed with the flooring than I anticipated, I knew I'd like it but, wow does it look great. In-between helping with flooring I scrubbed refrigerators, cleaned out cabinets and emptied shelves of glassware. I'll be bringing boxes of glassware to goodwill, lots of mugs, glasses, plates and bowls. I hope that one of the mugs or glasses we drop off to goodwill is found by someone who needs it desperately to replace a long lost item in their cabinet. Although we cleaned and worked all day, the house now looks as if a tornado went through it, isn't that the way of progress? At first glance the kitchen is a nightmare, but each and every cabinet is clean and empty and the fridge is sanitized and shiny, now its just a matter of boxing things up. I had every intention of painting ceilings but never quite got that far, looks like my work is set for the week. Now onto the dumpster, Tim will be tasked with throwing away anything he doesn't want and can't be donated. He'll need to make a pile of anything he wants to keep, things we can donate and the rest hopefully will get tossed on the spot. Oddly all the cleaning and renovating has been cathartic, I can almost understand the clean freaks in my life. The weekend was beautiful, sunny and hot but with so much work to be done there was no beach for me...boo! I shouldn't complain, I now know how to lay a vinyl floor, skills I never knew I'd want or have. Tim and I won't be going into business laying vinyl but I foresee us doing another room here and there now that we have all the tools and skills. Oddly enough we actually work well together, a rarity for married couples. I do the majority of the bossing no surprise there but thankfully, Tim allows me to take the lead, or at least pretends I'm in charge by humoring me. He's got a day of work at the house without me there, I can't wait to see what progress is made. He'll miss me working by his side, even with all my bossy chatter our teamwork is productive. Going to my day job will feel like a vacation compared to all the work to be done at home and doing both may kill me! This old body needs a beach day soon to recover from all this work, but the progress is rewarding and new skills are always great.
