Day 806 Pumpkins, Mums & Flu Shots

It's that time of year for pumpkins, mums and flu shots. Yes, I'm one of those people that gets my flu shot religiously every year. I don't care who does or doesn't, it's just become a routine of mine, dating back to when I had my youngest child. My son was born prematurely and was a tiny little baby, not quite ready for the big world. The Pediatrician recommended that everyone in our household get a flue shot, in an effort to protect his delicate immune system. Well, he's 34 now and healthy as a horse but I continue to get my shot each year. I had scheduled my shot for later in the day, hustling home to drop a few bags, bring in the mail and scurry right back out. I arrived for my scheduled appointment, happy to see a friend of mine working as the pharmacist to check me in. When I was called in for my turn, it was yet again, another friend administering the injection. Maybe serendipity, (isn't everything) but my friend Julie, who was giving the shot is an avid runner and we began chatting about running. She runs races, marathons and is even in the Guinness Book of World Records for the "Fastest 10km pushing a triple pram (female). She ran it in 49 minutes!" She and I chatted about the dangers of running outside, crazy people ruining our vibe, but no excuses for not getting back on my treadmill. I was so good about my running routine, putting in two miles every day...until I allowed myself a day off, one day off leads to two then to another skip day and before you know it you're full of excuses. Julie urged me to join a race with her this fall, yikes...how about the spring?! Not sure I'll be road race ready but at least I'm inspired to pick back up my morning routine, get off my *ss and stop filling my brain with excuses. After all, I need to get my cruise body ready! I'll be out picking a pumpkin, an oddly difficult task selecting the one that has ideal size, shape, stem but I'll give it my best. I'll also be up and running early, getting my groove back and pushing all excuses aside. Who knew how inspiring a tiny flu shot could be?!
