Day 808 Civic Duty

I'm always amazed at how much I can accomplish with an extra hour added to my morning routine! Up early, as always, I wrote, ran (almost died doing it) washed dishes, folded laundry, dropped a package off for return and was off to vote. Early voting is the way to go, no lines, quick and easy. Now I can sit back and watch the craziness from the comforts of home, each side ramping up with rhetoric. After flexing my civic duty I was off to my meeting for RI Recreation and Parks Association. This organization pulls in representatives from each town's Rec. departments, and meets monthly to advance the field and work together to improve services state wide. Last month, the Vice President stepped down so there was to be a mid term election, count me in. The favored candidate was such a shoe in that no one else threw their name into the race....except for me. I don't believe there should be any election without opposition, choice is always a good thing and I have thick enough skin to lose, and not let it get me down. Well, to my surprise, I won...by a landslide! What?? I didn't see that coming, but what I nice pat on the back from my peers! Honestly, I sat, looking around the room, knowing each of these people cast my name for the position, and was filled me with pride. When people say their vote doesn't count, they couldn't be more wrong. Small elections show the greatest direct impact but imagine if everyone stayed home, figuring it didn't matter? During this national election we may not love, or even like the candidate running against ours, but one thing for sure, it's better than having no choice at all. Only one name on the ballot wouldn't be an election in my opinion, that sounds more like a dictatorship to me and I'd rather not see my beautiful country go that direction. I'll be up early again, back at it, not sure why I stopped my morning running routine but ouch, my body reminds me that wasn't a good idea. I even bought fancy new sneakers to try and make my treadmill time more appealing, two miles each day or bust.
