Day 821 Gotta Match?

Got a match? What ever happened to cool books of matches? I happen to have a collection that hasn't been added to in ages but I'm always looking. Back in the day...pre 2000's, businesses gave away books of matches- from funeral homes to restaurants and everything in between. Personalized books of matches were given as wedding favors, marking the special day with the tiny books of sulfur sticks and everyone was happy to remember the couple with ignition. After all, who doesn't need matches? I'm not even sure who Lenore & Dan are but I know they were married Aug. 2nd 1969 and who wouldn't love to still have matches with Elvis Presley on the cover? My matches are just one of my many odd collections and most likely one of the reasons my house looks more like a museum than a house beautiful magazine. Some people are minimalists while others (like me) are maximalists. I can't help myself, I just love cool things and while one book of matches may not seem like a big deal, put a dozen together and they become much more interesting. I'm sure my kids will throw away all my cool collections when I die.... but that will be on them. While I'm alive, I'll continue to enjoy all of my items, add to them every chance I get while showcasing them with pride. I love to surround myself with little slices of history and see the once every day items now take on a vintage vibe.  I'm not sure why JFK had his face on so many books of matches, can't imagine seeing a current presidents face on them but it was a thing at the time. Whoever thought of matches as a marketing tool, well done, here they are fifty years later, still representing. Who knows what will become a collectable, but I once heard that it only takes three of an item to call it a collections...oh boy! With all my collectibles maybe I'll showcase a new one each month, marbles, jelly cups, decoys, buttons, vintage pyrex, rocks, shells, my old eye glasses.....oh dear, this might be fun. I'm not sure when the last time I heard, "gotta match" was but my answer will always be, yes...just don't think you can use one of my collectables.
