Day 824 Sing a song of sunshine
A beautiful bouquet of fall flowers found its way to my kitchen table...thanks to me. I've been missing the daylight and knew a bunch of pretty flowers would brighten even the darkest evening. I'm never going to be accused of being a floral designer but can buy a grocery store bouquet or two, cut and display them in a pretty vase just the same. The bouquet casts beautiful shadows on my old formica tabletop, doubling the display. That old table has seen years of flowers, crafts, dinners, coloring and everything under the sun. When I first moved into my house, thirty seven years ago, the old wooden base, formica top table was left in the basement and would have been thrown out by most people. I carried it upstairs, painted the base and scrubbed the top, telling myself I'd use it until I found one I liked more. Well, thirty seven years and many paint jobs later, it's still in my kitchen. The formica top may not be fancy, but is as close to indestructible as any tabletop could be. I've never worried about kids using the table as a workspace, playing play dough, coloring with markers, using glue, glitter or anything they want on the table and likewise I've used it for rolling out dough, crafting projects and everything else under the sun. That little 1950's table has served me well over the years and become a fixture in my household. It's often covered with mail, lunch bags or whatever Tim and I throw down, with every intention of coming back to claim the items. The bouquet of flowers, prominently displayed in the center of the table, serves as a reminder to find another place to put your items... My nice clean table with beautiful flowers isn't to be disturbed, even Tim knows that. The fragrant flowers fill the room with autumn scents and the pretty blossoms sing a song of sunshine. As I sit on my little kitchen couch, I admire the beauty of my space and am inspired to fill a few more tabletops with bouquets, time to clean off my dining room table and buffet! I might just fill my house will flowers this week, cleaning one spot at a time and paying myself for my efforts in blossoms. I'll always be a gal that buys myself flowers, after all, I know when I need them the most. The early darkness helps me appreciate the beauty right here under my roof, thankful for the comfort of home and grateful for each and every memory it holds.
