Day 839 My Tribe
It was a busy day prepping for my friends to come over for dinner, amazing how one meal can take all day to prepare! In an effort to not bore everyone with turkey, I cooked an old school Yankee Pot Roast...good old fashioned meat and potatoes. I started cooking the roast first thing in the am so it could simmer all day and holy cow was it delicious, if I do say so myself. I made lots of appetizers, more than we could ever eat but it's better than having anyone leave hungry. Once my friends arrived, we all gathered around my dining room table, happy as clams to finally see each other again and eager to entertain each other with stories. Each of them had brought something to add to our meal adding delicious breads, wine and an amazing flourless chocolate tort with raspberries for dessert. Stuffed to the gills, we all made our way to my basement family room, finding comfy seats and settling in for the night. We played silly games and went through a deck of question cards, entertaining each other with our answers. We had smartly left the dinner mess behind, I'd hate to miss a minute of time with my friends for a clean dishes. I only went back to the kitchen to grab the nibbled on appetizers from the fridge for round two. We all were having such fun we lost track of time and before we knew it the clock was striking eleven... good thing I had that espresso mid day!! Kicking back, relaxing with friends seems to be the tonic to keeping me awake on these cold dark nights. It's amazing how much fun us old folks can have when we get together, dazzling one another with stories and silliness, the laughter never stops! Imagine the fun we'll have together on our cruise?!? Once they all left, Tim and I quickly put away anything needing immediate attention and blissfully left the rest for the morning. If you're lucky in life, you'll find your tribe, people that make you smile and adore you, flaws and all. These friends have become part of my tribe and I'm eternally grateful to the universe for putting them in my life's path.
