Day 861 Recipe for success

My last blog post had me down a rabbit hole of memories. After writing, I began to question myself, was I really six when I began baking by myself? I grabbed my favorite childhood cookbooks and when I opened one, a handwritten recipe fell out. I was impressed with my six year old penmanship, spelling and gumption to jot down a recipe as well as the fact that I still have my cherished cookbooks. In lieu of a notebook, I had written the peanut brittle recipe on the back of my parents formal invitation to the inauguration for RI Governor, Frank Licht, dated January, 1971....so I really was baking at six. After a few good morning laughs down memory lane, I was off for my walk with Missy, bundling up with temps in the teens but eager to feel the sunshine. The walk wasn't as cold as you'd think, once we started walking our  bodies warmed right up and with our hats, coats and mittens on, we were well prepared. We both agreed we want more kitchen dates, relaxing days to bake together with no schedule to pull us back into reality. Those dreams weren't in the cards for the remainder of my Sunday, I had a cookie swap to attend and chores to get done before the close of the weekend. The cookie swap was better than I had expected, the beach club was filled with tray after tray of scrumptious, home made treats and proud baking ladies. Everyone really brought their A game cookies and once combined the variety made up the most amazing cookie trays. We all wrapped our cookies with cellophane and pretty bows and snapped a photo of our group holding our sweets, 2024 cookie swap success. Now, what to do with a giant tray of cookies? My friends all swear the tray can be frozen until Christmas, I may have to give it a try since there's no way Tim and I can eat five dozen cookies...or shouldn't. What to do with too many delicious cookies, possibly the best problem I've had all year. After seeing all the unique cookies as well as thumbing through my old cook books, I've got a few new recipes to try...might even give the peanut brittle a go again, good thing I wrote down that recipe! I'd say it was a recipe for success!!
