Day 869 Home for the Holidays
My retro coffee table set up is silly fun at its best. I texted this picture to my son to show off and his reply, "what the hell am I looking at"?...perfection! When you make someone stop in their tracks with confusion, that's a job well done. I'm proud as punch that folks thought my pretzel cigarettes, displayed in authentic 70's ashtrays were real. I added a dish of penny candies, the old Mary Janes, Boston Baked Beans, Sugar Daddy's and of course Bit-O Honey... all the old fashioned candies that no one ever liked but certainly remembers. Guessing the terrible candy options helped keep kids from eating too much, no one ever got fat from eating too many Bit-O Honey's! I'm not even sure I've seen anyone finish one without spitting it out! The Woman's Day and Playboy are both fun to flip through, for the articles of course. Ironically, what were dirty magazine photos in 1973 aren't far from what we see on the daily now on social media.... times sure do change. With my grandkids coming over for Christmas, I'll be putting away a few of my props...no kid needs to have their grammy be the one to show them their first dirty magazine. With internet access I wonder if magazines are even still a thing?? Tim and I are both gearing up for another round of company and looking forward to a house full for the holiday. I'm thrilled to have all my decorating enjoyed and appreciated before it all comes down. The bright lights, garland, red bows and greeting cards create such a beautiful backdrop for gatherings and there's something special about an old house decorated for the holidays. I better start wrapping presents, somehow I've left that job for the last minute and now have a pile waiting for me..thank goodness for gift bags. I'm one of those folks that will be working Christmas Eve, thankfully only for a half day but somehow it still doesn't seem right. There's no place like home for the holidays.
