Day 871 Surprise
Holiday fun around the dining room table, songs, Christmas Crackers and silly trinkets that keep us entertained for hours. A quick trip to the airport mid day to pick up my son and his girlfriend had us home before everyone arrived for dinner. We hadn't told my grandsons that their uncle would be visiting and both boys were thrilled at the surprise when they saw him. No one could believe how tall my oldest grandson has grown, as he reported he's now 5'10". A height that was quickly determined to be an understatement when he stood next to his 5'10" uncle and was clearly taller. At 14 years old, he's growing at a rapid rate with no sign of slowing down. The day seemed full of surprises as I went to the sink and realized we had no water. I quickly checked the other faucets and found them to be as dry as the Sierra Desert. Somehow this surprise wasn't as exciting as a visit from a loved one. After fielding everyones theroies on the water shortage and promising everyone that I've paid my water bill, I got a phone call letting me know a water main broke one street over and should be fixed and back on within several hours. The lack of water wasn't too bad, who wants to deal with a pile of dirty dishes on Christmas day anyway? After dinner we all settled in the family room for a few silly games of holiday charades and kazoo fun. With a fresh pile of new boardgames waiting for us, the next few days should be fun filled. Fortunately, I was smart and took a couple days off to enjoy the Christmas aftermath and clean up once the water comes back on. Surprise gifts, visits and utility failure, Christmas 2024 sure did keep us on our toes.
