Day 875 Echos
One final toast to RI before my son and his girlfriend board their plane. If you're not from RI, you may not be familiar with the iconic frozen lemonade but it's a fan favorite for sure. We Rhode Islanders love our Dels, our coffee milk and Jonny Cakes! Before heading to the airport for an early evening flight, we thankfully had the entire day to spend together. Of course, there was more gaming involved, visits from my youngest son and my daughter with her family. I cooked burgers for everyone, with a dozen chicken thighs on the side and everyone made quick work of the food. If you've ever wondered who the heck can eat six or seven burgers and still be hungry, that would be my son. We all circled the dining room table to play a new game, fortunately one that had us all working together rather than battling each other for properties. This game had everyone using their creative juices to come up with answers to specific questions and describing them in detail. One person would then have to rate them on a scale of one through ten and try to place them in the correct order. Tim had the most outrageous answers and each time he took his turn the table would erupt with laughter. It was a great game for a large group, appropriately named, That escalated quickly. There's always the favorite go to games but each year I buy new ones and make a point to learn them. Each Christmas it gets harder to find games we don't already own and that look somewhat promising. So far the new games for 2024 have been hits, at least the two new ones we've tried so far. We were all sad to see my son pack up to leave, it's typically months between our short visits, somehow never enough time! It's amazing how fast five days can flash by when you're visiting with loved ones! I arrived home from the airport drop off to a quiet house, scattered with holiday fun, dirty dishes and echos of laughter. The house seems to hold the joy and love that filled each room, radiating good vibes throughout...I suppose that's what makes a house a home. My house emanates love...no wonder I love it here! Even when they're gone, I can still feel my family here, rocking in the kitchen, lounging on the couch, running up the stairs and gathered together around the table. Kids sure do grow up quickly, grandkids even faster... before I know it I'll be looking down the barrel of being a great grammy!! I can only hope that where ever life takes each of them they find their way back to RI for a visit....and a Dels.
