Day 898 7 Degrees
If you look closely, you'll notice the temperature coming in at a bitterly cold 7 degrees. I was thankful I had cleaned off the cars, otherwise the doors would have been frozen shut. My driveway was clear and ready for me to drive out without sliding on ice and my car, although cold was ready to go. Slightly envious of the folks with heated steering wheels I focused on the luxury of my heated seat. My old car had an automatic car starter, something I've missed with this one. There's something pretty sweet about being able to start the car from the warmth of the kitchen, especially living without a garage. In my lifetime, I've never lived in a house with a garage, so I'm blissfully ignorant to the awesomeness. Walking from a house, right into a garage and into a warm car, never feeling the elements must be nice, especially climbing into a clean car, free from snow, rain and ice. I imagine cars stay much cleaner when parked inside and away from the elements. I've also never owned a car with a heated steering wheel, but until this car, had never had air conditioned seats. Each step forward tends to bring new luxuries and although ignorance is bliss, once experienced they are hard to give up, spoiling us with every new gadget. I love my car, even without a heated steering wheel or automatic car starter, don't see giving her up for years to come. I've always owned my cars for a minimum of ten years, have never bought a brand new vehicle but have always found fantastic second hand rides and deals. I really could use two vehicles, a small fun to drive car and a truck, to carry all my thrifting finds, imagine what I could bring home if I had a truck?? I'd love to own a convertible someday, totally impractical for RI weather but for a couple months a year it would be a blast to drive. I suppose a convertible would be best parked inside a garage... neither is in my near future. Maybe the best plan would be a fun vacation, renting a convertible and living my best life for a week or so. For now, I'll sneak outside to start my car, wipe off the ice and snow and enjoy my heated seats while I count down the days until our vacation. The 7 degree mornings will make me appreciate the tropical warmth of vacation even more. Packing for 80 degrees when it's single digits outside isn't easy, but as far as problems go, it's not a bad one to have.
