Day 910 Cruise Life

We made it to our cruise ship after a morning full of obstacles, happy to finally connect with our friends. A road race was happening all around our hotel, making getting a ride close to impossible. After more than an hour of waiting and  two Ubers cancelled on us, we walked several blocks, with our luggage in tow, to get to a location with moving traffic. We were so happy to finally get a ride and even happier once on our ship.

Day one found us all a bit more tired than we would have wanted. Although each of us tried to rally, there was not a chance we’d be seeing much nightlife. We had a great dinner together, then set out to hear good music, but seemed cursed with horrible sounds. The first stop, a craft beer bar with a pianist performing pop tunes. Akin to Goldie Locks, we tried four different seats before settling in. The bar seats would have us too far apart, high top table had uncomfortable barstools, couch and chairs, too close to pianist and loud. Finally in the back we settled in, although we should have wondered why there were so many available seats! After a half hour of painful song after painful song we decided to go downstairs to hear a band perform music by the BeeGees. Holy cow, were they bad. We didn’t make it through one song before bailing and heading to Karaoke, maybe matures would entertain us more? We walked into the Cavern Club to find a lively room but within minutes had our hearing assaulted by a young girl, badly singing song after song. I like kids and all, but when on earth did our world turn into a carnival for kids? Shouldn’t there be a bedtime? They certainly shouldn’t monopolize adult nightlife, since there’s no way you can crush their little spirits by telling them to stop singing because they are horrible. Adults without kids don’t want to have them waltzing into bars at night, bellying up to bars playing grown up. When the shrieking girl got up to sing, for the fourth time, Tim and I said our goodnight and headed to our cabin, ears ringing and heads shaking. Maybe our next trip will be adults only?

Day two will be at sea, a great day to lounge by the pool, get some sunshine and maybe even try the big water slide. The cruise ship food never disappoints, with everything you could want, ready and waiting, and we’ll be tasting it all. The ship has lots of fun bars and restaurants, it’s like a small city at sea.

Tim and I opened our sliding door to hear the ocean waves before climbing into bed. The fresh air and ocean sounds, putting us into a deep and peaceful sleep. Our ears, thankful for the sounds of quiet ocean waves, as the ringing from the nights events faded. We’re settled in and happy to call our little cabin home for the week. Now we just need to find good music and kid free nightlife so we can enjoy our cruise life.
