Day 916 Bahamas
Last stop on our island hopping week, Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. The island was purchased by the cruise lines to become an inclusive resort for cruisers. The ships immensities are extended onto the island, free drinks, food and entertainment. Tim and I had a great breakfast on board before heading over to the island with our friends. We found lounge chairs right behind a giant chess set and wouldn’t have expected to be drawn into each game, assessing right and wrong moves and waging bets on winners. The crystal clear ocean water cooled us off when the hot sun became almost too hot to tolerate. It’s amazing how a quick swim brings the body temperature down within minutes. Although we were in the lap of luxury on the island, I much prefer the vibe of locals and a glimpse of island life on the islands we’ve visited much more than the commercially man made replica.
Once back on the ship it was time to pack our bags, darn it! Snow storms back home have already forced flight cancellations, although ours still seems to be on schedule. Our friends scrambled to book new flights and will be stuck in Miami for the day, not a bad place to be stuck.
We all went to dinner to celebrate our last night on the ship, all but Tim. My poor husband has been out to eat each and every night, sitting through delicious three course meals with cocktails and wine… “the worst part of the trip” in his opinion. He opted to grab a burger solo while I joined our friends for what I deem to be one of the best parts of the trip, fine dining, delicious food, drinks and time with our friends. At least we were both happily doing our thing on the last night, even if they didn’t coincide.
Suitcases packed, preparing to head home to several inches of snow, but not before a day in Miami. I’m so thankful to have booked our resort for the day and eager to check it out with our friends. It’s amazing how fast a week goes by, especially when you’re lounging in tropical sunshine in February.
