Day 919 Clickbait
When I saw someone carrying this insulated cup, I immediately went on Amazon and ordered one for myself! We'll call it an early Valentine's Day gift. I really don't need another beverage cup, but I’m a sucker for a good laugh.
Mahjong is surprisingly fun to play, especially when you gather enough people for a game or two and teach them. Some people pick it up quickly, while others, not so much. I wouldn't have expected my brain to enjoy the challenge, especially with all the possible combinations—it can be enough to make you crazy! But making order out of chaos must be my thing.
I've been deliberately trying not to buy anything on Amazon, since most of my purchases seem to be impulsive. I believe this was my first purchase on the site this year. Ok, so it’s only February, but that’s something! And of course, my first purchase was an insulated drink cup—just what I need to add to the 100 others I already own. The absurdity of it wasn't lost on me.
Social media tortures us with ads targeted to our tastes, showing the most beautiful shoes, dresses, and everything else under the sun that I’d love to have. I'm determined to practice self-control and not succumb to clickbait. After all, I don’t need one more item in my house or closet... but there it was, a silly cup that made me laugh, and suddenly I had to have it. So much for self-control!
My dad’s favorite saying was, "Everything in moderation, including moderation." So, with him whispering in my ear from heaven, I gave myself the green light for this temporary lapse in self-control. I'll force myself to use this cup enough to get its $14.99 worth of value, and I imagine I’ll give a few friends a laugh while holding it.
Now, if I could only go through my cupboard filled with similar cups and weed them out, reclaiming some valuable kitchen cupboard real estate... but that’s a task for another day! For now, I’ll enjoy my games, sip water from my cool cup, and be the envy of everyone around the Mahjong table.
