Day 923 Feline Champion

Peps is often my best excuse for not getting up. She has a way of making herself incredibly comfortable on my lap, and I can’t help but stay still while she’s there. Both Tim and I were embracing our inner laziness, spending the day watching television, scrolling through nonsense on our computers, all while listening to the rain and wind outside. Peps absolutely loves having us home and takes full advantage of our downtime by bouncing from one lap to the other.

We’re so lucky that we had Joy here to keep Peps company while we were away. Contrary to what some people might think, cats need a great deal of attention. Peps is happiest when Tim and I are both home, especially when we’re just lounging around and doing nothing.

As I sat there for hours scrolling through vacation options on my computer, I daydreamed about potential trips. Soon enough, spring and summer will be here, and we’ll be living out our vacations through everyday life. But during the winter, it’s nice to imagine the warm sunshine and hot, sandy beaches.

When I think about vacation, I tend to focus on the relaxation and escape from the grind—mostly because my vacation dreams almost always involve a beach and warm weather. I’ve always said there’s a big difference between travel and vacation. Traveling is great if you’ve got the time—sightseeing, exploring, and usually packing in as much as you can in a short period. But vacation? That’s about unwinding, recharging, and allowing yourself the time to rest and recover from the day-to-day hustle. Neither one is better or worse than the other. Both are important; the trick is knowing when you need one versus the other.

This weekend, Tim and I seemed to need a stay-at-home vacation, taking the opportunity to rest, recharge, and recover from the whirlwind of life. It's such a blessing to have a home that supports that kind of retreat—everyone should have a space that offers that kind of peace.

While I was daydreaming about beaches, Tim was diving into the latest music news. Apparently, Paul McCartney played several spontaneous shows at the Bowery Ballroom in New York. Tim and I had seen a band there a couple of years ago, so this piece of news caught his attention. He suggested that I should focus my blog on this big event! I do love it when Tim tries to tell me what to write about, though I usually suggest that he write his own blog. Peps Verses McCartney.... my feline champion.

Still, I know he’ll be happy that his suggestion made it into my post—even if it wasn’t the main focus.  Peps, however, continues to dominate more than just my lap as she headlines today's blog—she’s just that kind of cat.
