Day 927 Retro Gold

 

I’ll admit it—I do a lot of bragging about my thrift store finds, and here I am doing it again! But seriously, I have to share this one because I’m absolutely obsessed. Can we talk about 1970s retro gold for a moment? This jacket immediately took me back in time, and I’m convinced it’s possibly the coolest thing I’ve found all year and it was mine for only $3. 

The moment I slipped into it to show it off to Melissa, we couldn't stop reminiscing about some of our favorite '70s clothing. We couldn’t help but wonder, who on earth would give away a jacket like this? I mean, really—who would look inside their closet, decide it’s time for a clear-out, and think, "Yep, this hipster jacket definitely needs to go"? Crazy right? But hey, their loss is my gain!

This jacket now has a permanent place in my wardrobe, and let me tell you, I feel like I’m channeling a cool, retro vibe every time I wear it. Each time I put it on, I’m transported to a time when I’d fit right in with my favorite Mod Squad characters. I can totally imagine standing between Link and Pete—move over, Julie, I’ve arrived!

To fully embrace the 1970s spirit, though, I’d need to swap out my jeans for some low-rise bellbottoms and throw on a pair of clogs (more of my ‘70s favorites). While I’m not sure anyone under the age of 50 will fully appreciate the pure awesomeness of my jacket, I know for us "oldies," the nostalgic factor makes it priceless. The fabulousness is absolutely not lost on me!

It’s finds like this one that keep me going back to thrift stores over and over again. You just never know when someone will toss something that’s been sitting in their closet for decades. But when they do, I’m always on the lookout—hoping I’m the one who stumbles across it.

Fashion trends come and go, but they always seem to rotate back in with time. Retro is cool again, but for those of us who remember the original wave, these clothes bring back incredible memories and can make us feel like we’ve stepped right back into our teen years. So, if you ever spot me rocking this jacket and I seem impossibly cool, don’t be too jealous—it’s OK. After all, we can’t all be as cool as Link, Pete, and Julie...but with this jacket on, I'm close!!
