Day 954 Famous
Talk about a flashback! I've been texting with my friend Allison about how excited I am to see her son, Andrew, in the new Snow White movie. I can't imagine how thrilled she'll be to see her boy on the big screen in a leading role! She sent me this photo of our boys when they were 8 or 9 years old, taken with Lamar Odom. Lamar held a basketball camp here in town when he was attending URI back in 1989-1999. I remember that day so well. Each day, I would drop off and pick up my two boys and Andrew, and photos were certainly not as easy to take back then as they are today. One day, I brought my camera with old-school film and snapped a few photos of Lamar and the boys. Before rushing over to a one-hour photo developing booth, I had to use up the remainder of the film on random shots. I had a few of the photos blown up before heading back for pick-up at the basketball camp.
When I arrived, photos still in their cardboard packaging, I handed a photo to each of the boys and told them to ask Lamar to autograph the pictures. Lamar's face was priceless. He looked at the photos, then down at what he was wearing, wondering how on earth I had actual printed photos made so quickly! He happily signed the photos, and each of the boys was thrilled to have such a great memento from the week. It took more than a bit of running around on my part, but it was certainly worth the effort to see the boys so happy.
I chuckle now when I see the photo—oh, how the tables have turned! Lamar will now be the one asking Andrew for an autograph....who's famous now!? What you can't see in this picture is my son, Seth, standing tall on his tippy toes, trying to gain a few inches and look taller next to Lamar. During the camp, Seth hung out with Lamar's posse more than playing ball, but fun was had by everyone. Funny but in my mind it might as well have been last week, not twenty five years ago!
It's amazing how time flies, and it’s such a joy to witness these full-circle moments. Looks like I'll be heading to the movie theatre soon!
