Day 974 Veggie Challenge

It’s a bit too early to plant seeds outside, so why not bring the planter inside? Call me crazy, but I thought it was a brilliant idea to start a package of lettuce seeds indoors. My girls will be so happy if this works! The idea of feeding my hens fresh lettuce daily for just a couple of dollars inspired me to give it a go—even though I’m far from a gardener.

If my experiment fails, no harm done. But if I succeed, I’ll have a happy flock of chickens and a planter that makes me look like I’ve got a green thumb. Now I’m just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit so I can move my seedlings outside.

I’ll be trying tomato plants again—it's become kind of a yearly challenge I have with myself. Each year, I stay optimistic that I’ll finally manage to grow those beautiful red veggies! I gain more respect every year for my parents’ gardening skills; they always had a full garden filled with lush vegetables. How the heck does that even happen?

I’ve come to the realization that any success I may have will likely need to come in potted form. Baby steps. Time will tell if my lettuce-growing experiment is a success, but I’m all in for giving it a try. Who knows, I might even grow enough to make a salad for myself, as well as feed fresh greens to my girls.

Here’s to small beginnings and the hope that this little indoor garden turns into something green and great!
