Day 978 Bee/Bug Hotel

I picked up this brand-new Bee/Bug Hotel at a thrift shop last week—who in their right mind would give such a treasure away?? With gardening not being my strong suit, I often say I'm letting my gardens grow wild for the bees. This new hotel will be proof of my good intentions.

I love a beautifully manicured yard, with pristine flower beds that are weeded and mulched... I just don't have those skills. I've even looked into hiring someone to help, but that's not an easy task here in Rhode Island.

So now, I'm committed to supporting the bee population with my wild gardens, letting the weeds grow freely to nourish my tiny buzzing friends. The bee population has continued to decline for a multitude of reasons, but they are vital pollinators for many crops. Without them, our food sources would be compromised.

I'll be hanging my tiny hotel facing the sunshine, watching and waiting for guests to move in. It will be exciting to see if it fills up—after all, who wouldn't want to stay in such a charming little spot? I'll hang it right over a once-pretty flower garden that’s now full of a mix of weeds, tall grasses, and whatever flowering bulbs are strong enough to break through. Survival of the fittest shows itself in my garden beds!

Here’s hoping my little hotel becomes a buzzing hub of life, nestled in the wild beauty of my perfectly imperfect garden.
