Day 982 Friendship
Fun dinner get-together with a few of my favorite friends from childhood. I would say these were high school friends, but we all met long before that. Who would have thought we'd all be sitting together, celebrating two of us turning 60 this month?? Only Scott and I are sixty—the other three won't have their birthdays until summer or fall—so it looks to be a year-long celebration for sure!
It's always so much fun to catch up with this crew, and we all wish we could make it happen more often... darn our busy lives that interfere. Collette impresses me the most—if I invite her, she's here, even with just over an hour drive from Massachusetts. She packs an overnight bag, joins in whatever I’ve planned, and crashes at my house, always knowing she’s got a place to stay with me...and I don't even need to clean my house for her visits! These are the kind of friends we should all have in our lives!
Cathy and Collette talked about retiring within the next couple of years, and Mark is already retired... I might be the last of our crew still working—except maybe Scott. He fishes, and those salty old fishermen don’t ever stop!
We had so much fun catching up, telling silly stories, and laughing the night away. I even told them about the postal service mailing kids, amazed that no one knew it the night before—and to my surprise, none of them had ever heard such a thing either! How did I think that was common knowledge?? Oh well, looks like we can all learn something new, even after sixty years of living.
Nights like this remind me how lucky I am to have friendships that have stood the test of time—and how sweet it is to grow older with people who truly know your story.
