Day 1018 Fingers Crossed
I always love looking at my Timehop photos each morning—scrolling through treasured memories and seeing what was happening on this day in years past.
When this photo of Tim and me came up, I was hit with just how much I miss that darn pocketbook! Sure, it was a happy memory of Tim and me at the Ratskeller—there was a fun band, a bonfire, and one of those cool summer nights made for dancing—but still, that bag!
It’s so hard to find a pocketbook that checks all the boxes: the perfect size, comfortable to carry, goes with everything. And that bag did it all. I carried it for a couple of years, blissfully unaware that over time, the leather loop that held the shoulder strap would wear down enough to snap… and then one day, it did.
What do you do with a broken leather strap? I couldn’t bring myself to throw the bag away, so I carefully wrapped it up and tucked it onto the top shelf of my closet. I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to pull it back down and inspect it, but I finally gathered the gumption to assess whether or not the bag could be saved—and I think it can!
Fingers crossed, but I believe our local shoe cobbler might be able to attach a new leather piece. At the very least, it’s worth bringing it in to ask. If he can’t do it, I may need to turn it over to the hive mind and crowdsource a creative solution.
If I’m successful and the bag is restored, it will feel like a true handbag miracle. Either way, it’s funny how something as simple as a photo can remind you of what’s worth saving—whether it’s memories, moments, or a well-loved accessory.
