Day 1034 Orange
Another unexpected, color-coordinated night out with my daughter! I had a lazy day around the house—after my 4-mile walk with Missy, that is. I lounged around, played my silly phone game, and lollygagged like a pro. I only showered and got dressed to pick Jess up for our theatre date.
We were off to Theatre by the Sea to see the Patsy Cline show. Being lifelong fans of Patsy, we were both super excited. When Jess was little, I used to play one of Patsy Cline’s CDs all the time—I’d guess all my kids are more familiar with her music than they realize, although Jess has always been a huge country music fan.
The show was fantastic—Although, how tragic that Patsy died so young, at only 30 years old in a plane crash like so many other musicians. The singing was nonstop and incredible, and the 5:00 p.m. showtime is officially our new favorite. Last year, I would drag myself out for the 8:00 p.m. shows and struggle to stay awake during the second half. This earlier start had us home and in bed by 8:00 p.m.- perfection!
We even snagged the front row of the balcony, hands down my favorite seats in any theatre. I love an unobstructed view of the stage and not being overly tall, it's not an easy ask! Our accidentally color-coordinated outfits—apparently orange was the color of the night—added an extra layer of fun to the evening.
We skipped dinner out, choosing instead to relax at home a bit longer before the show, and we were both eager to get back and climb into bed afterward. The drive home, though only seven minutes, was far from relaxing. At one point, a car nearly sideswiped us after failing to stop at an intersection. Just moments later, a large deer ran alongside my car. I quickly stopped in case it decided to dart across the road. We were both amazed at how effortlessly it kept up with us at 25 miles per hour and equally amazed that with all the obstacles, we both made it home safe and sound!
I was grateful for a lovely evening filled with music, laughter, and a bit of unexpected adventure. Nights like these remind me how lucky I am to share these little moments with my daughter. Here's to more spontaneous outings, great music, and early bedtimes and now and then an unexpected matching outfit or two!
