Day 1044 Spider Plants

If there's such a thing as a crazy plant lady, I might just qualify. I'm a sucker for propagating plants from clippings or sprouts from friends' plants, and I'm not shy about asking for them. A friend of mine has a great spider plant, so needless to say, I now have a dozen small ones of my own.

About six years ago, I took a few clippings from a Golden Pothos plant—also known as Devil’s Ivy—and now I have big, beautiful plants. I continue to take clippings from them and make new pottings for myself and friends.

My kids accuse me of making extra work for myself—plants need watering, chickens need tending, and there's always the never-ending holiday decorating to be done. That may be true, but I'm a scurrier by nature, so I don’t mind it one bit. I’m excited to watch my tiny spider plants grow and brighten up my house and office.

I might just start giving plants as gifts—because why not? After all, nothing says “I’m thinking of you” quite like a living, growing gift...and who wouldn't want a little more greenery in their life? Looks like I better visit my friend again, scissors in hand and grab a few new stolons or as I call them, "spider babies".
