Day 1052 Beach Chaos
From heatwave to fleece jackets—all in a week here in Rhode Island. The good news? I had the beach all to myself to enjoy a peaceful walk on a cool summer day. Narragansett Beach is usually a mob scene—definitely a place to avoid during tourist season. From what I hear, city folks have been flooding in during the warm weather, and not in the best way.
My daughter took my grandsons there one evening during the heatwave for a quick post-dinner swim, only to find herself surrounded by unruly crowds. The salty ocean breeze was overpowered by the smell of weed, and there were even fights in the parking lot. What the heck is going on? No wonder we seek out quiet stretches of sand, far from the chaos.
Luckily, the guys at the gate who usually charge for beach access let me in for free when I told them I was just going for a walk. And honestly, I get why beach access is such a hot topic—it’s frustrating when all you want is a simple stroll along the shoreline without the noise and nonsense.
The tourists may have hated the chilly day, but for us locals, it was a refreshing break and a chance to reclaim our stomping grounds.
It’s been a whirlwind of a week—trying to catch up after Bridie and the boys visited, getting ready for more family, and keeping up with the never-ending list of household chores. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind a couple of extra hours in the day!
Slowly but surely, the weekend is creeping closer. And with any luck, there’ll be another quiet day on the horizon—just the sand, the sea, and a little peace....mixed with a bit of fun too!
