Day 1053 Squished

Another cool summer night at the beach, and we were all happy to have "the eight" back together for the season. It was so chilly that we huddled close on the little loveseat—much tighter than it looks in the photo. Even Ray jumped in for a bit of warmth... or maybe just to snuggle up closer to Carole? Either way, we were glad to squish in and make room for him.

The weather has been all over the place—either a heat wave or we're bundled up in fleece! Luckily, the upcoming week looks like it will bring decent beach weather, which is a relief. When my son visits, he always hopes for at least a few good beach days.

I had rushed home to make it to the club in time for appetizer night, swinging by the grocery store on the way to "make" something—or more accurately, to make something happen—to share. I grabbed cookies, because who doesn’t love a sweet treat? I hadn’t eaten much during the day and was so hungry I could’ve chewed my arm off when I arrived. I quickly filled a plate with pizza and a delicious sandwich Carole had made. Donna brought little corn chips topped with guacamole and shrimp—she always brings something fancy and delicious.

One of these days, I will dazzle the group with a homemade appetizer. But for now, when time is short, store-bought and heartfelt will have to do. I’m really looking forward to getting back to our weekly dinner parties and, hopefully, some warmer nights! Either way, a night at the beach is always a good time.

There’s something special about this rhythm of summer—the shared meals, the laughter, beach friends and cozy nights. Hopefully a warm beach day or two without a chill.
