Day 1069 Shit Show

Summer fun! How cute are these little vases? Just big enough for a couple of Black-eyed Susans or a handful of dandelions, they’re the perfect reminder of the joy summer brings.

That said, after chatting with a few folks who’ve had a rough season, I briefly considered keeping my fun under wraps... but let’s be honest—that’s not going to happen. Rhode Island summers are short, but they could easily rival some of the top destinations in the world when it comes to sand, sun, and fun. No wonder it's my favorite time of year!

This year, I’ve even carved out time to play tourist, soaking in the sights as if for the first time. My only complaint? The season flies by far too quickly. Then again, I doubt I could keep up this pace much longer anyway! I’ve come to terms with the fact that my house will be a disaster until at least September. The garden won’t get half the flowers I’d planned to plant, and I certainly won’t have time to do everything on my wish list—but I’m going to try!

When my kids were little, we used to make one big master summer list—outings that cost money on one side, free outings on the other. We'd check off activities as we went, usually finishing the free ones first, then calculating how many of the paid ones we could squeeze in on our budget.  Maybe Tim and I should bring that back and start creating seasonal lists of things we want to do, see, and experience.

So far, this has been a beach club summer—and...I don’t mind if I do! What’s not to love? Warm sand, ocean breezes, dinners with friends, beautiful sunsets, and of course, music and dancing the summer nights away.

Summer 2025 hasn’t let me down, and I couldn’t be happier that there’s still more to come. Here's to soaking up every last golden minute before the season slips away. And focusing on every small glimpse of beauty around us, keeping the bigger shit show out of focus until the fall.
