Day 1080 Visions
Visions of Desserts Past
I suppose it's proof that I can put together a fancy dish. Maybe that's my problem—unless I go all out, I'd rather not make anything at all… ugh! I loved this dessert. Let’s face it, people enjoy individual servings, and the pail filled with extras, complete with a little shovel for scooping, was just too darn cute. I also love using those tiny plastic spoons for any dish—they just add a bit of whimsy.
My Timehop shows me photos each day. Most make me smile, but this one actually inspires me to get back into making fun dishes to share. It feels like I'm always fighting against time—never able to grab enough of it—and the balance between obligations and fun is a delicate one. Each summer seems to bring new creative ideas for treats, and plenty of parties to bring them to. I may have to resurrect this sweet treat idea before the end of the season.
I look at my summer calendar and smile: dates with friends, a lobster bake on the beach, another trip to Block Island on the horizon, live music, and of course, beach days! It’s no wonder summer is my all-time favorite season.
And let's not forget—LASIK surgery is scheduled for the end of this week. I've got a folder with all the information I need to read, which has been sitting unopened for a week now. I hate digging through that stuff, but I probably should take a look at the do’s and don’ts at least. My mom will be driving me to the appointment. It’s a quick procedure, so it’s not worth having Tim take a day off for it. I’ll be curious to see how long recovery takes—I imagine all that info is in that darn folder! The only thing I know for sure is that I won’t be allowed to swim in the ocean for at least a week. The rest will just have to unfold on its own.
Maybe with a couple of days off and my fancy new vision, I’ll be motivated to create an equally fancy new dessert for the weekend. We'll see!
Either way, I’m holding onto the hope that this mix of inspiration, time, and clear sight will help me bring a little more creativity back into my kitchen—and maybe even to the next summer gathering.
Here's to savoring the season—one sweet bite at a time.
