Day 1084 Joy

Follow-up checkup at my LASIK office first thing in the morning, and I’m happy to report that everything looks great! My distance vision is now 20/25—imagine that!? My eyeballs are finally working together for the first time ever, so it may take a bit for them to fully adjust, but so far, so good.

I keep closing my right eye as if to challenge my left to read things far away—still amazed that what was once a blurry mess is now clear and crisp. Technology really is a wonderful thing. I'm supposed to put drops in every hour for at least the first week. It’s a tough ask, but I’m trying.

I was home from the city by lunchtime and so happy to have a lunch date with Collette and Cathy, two childhood friends who are still two of my favorite people. We had a fantastic meal followed by pedicures, then came back to my house to relax on the deck for a bit. Cathy headed out after a while, and Collette and I made our way to the beach club to celebrate my friend Donna’s last day of work—forever!

She’s a few years older than me, and seeing her step into retirement so joyfully gave me a glimpse of how wonderful it might be to close the chapter on work life someday. Donna has big plans: golfing, weekday beach days, sleeping in, and doing whatever she darn well pleases. After thirty years with the same company, she more than earned it. She was showered with flowers, champagne, beautiful champagne glasses, and other thoughtful gifts. Color me green with envy!

The beach club deck was the perfect place to end a fabulous day, and being surrounded by friends was the cherry on top.

Grateful for good vision, good friends, and the gift of time well spent. Here's to more days like this—clear, bright, and full of joy.
