Day 1126 Grillfest
It’s not often you get to enjoy a beach grill fest in September! Steaks, Faroe Island salmon, asparagus, goat cheese mashed potatoes, and apple-rhubarb crumble with ice cream and whipped cream… absolutely delicious!
I happened to notice where the salmon was from since my son has been visiting the Faroe Islands—doubt it would’ve even registered in my brain six months ago! Standing at the tiki bar, watching the chef work his magic—flipping steaks and buttering the asparagus as it cooked—proved to be more entertaining than you'd imagine. The heat from the fire felt pretty darn good on a crisp evening too.
We eventually pulled ourselves away from the cooking excitement and found a table in the sand waiting for us, where we settled in for our feast. A couple of old friends arrived and quickly joined us, adding fresh faces and conversation to our group. Wedding talk dominated the night—it seems everyone’s kids are at that age! One friend shared her struggle to find the perfect mother-of-the-bride dress, each one she loved being vetoed by her daughter.
We chatted about dresses until the food arrived, at which point all conversation shifted to how incredibly delicious everything was—and how lucky we were to be sitting outside under the moonlight enjoying it all. Live music played in the background, adding to our spoiled beach club vibe.
Our plans for the evening had changed a dozen times. The original idea was dinner at my house, and although I had bought all the food and was ready to host, I must say—I’m so glad we didn’t miss this experience.
As the cool weather creeps in, it’s a good reminder to savor these outdoor moments while we can. Memories like this one will help us through the cold, dark winter days...as we dream of summer.
